Create a
​Blog Post

What is a Blog?
"A blog is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries. Posts are typically displayed in reverse chronological order, so that the most recent post appears first, at the top of the web page". Wikipedia

​
Features of a Blog Post:
  • Short (A blog can be very few words with an image...or 300 words...or more
    but 
    Internet readers have short attention spans, so blogs tend to be SHORT)
  • One topic or idea ​

Parts of a Blog:
  1. An attention-grabbing headline
  2. A captivating lead paragraph  
  3. Interesting supporting info 
  4. A call-to-action and pathway to act

Steps to Write a Blog Post:
  1. Choose a topic
  2. Write a headline: Tip: Start with a quote, a question, or a bold, statement.
  3. Write the lead paragraph.
  4. Add a few interesting points and supporting info.
  5. Write your call-to-action and include clear next steps and any info needed to take action.
    Tip: Invite readers to answer a question, do research, leave a comment, or share the post. 
  6. Reread your blog post - Proofread for proper spelling and punctuation.
    Tip: Be sure to fact-check and avoid copyright issues and plagiarism.
  7. Edit and revise.
  8. Add an image.
  9. ​Submit for review and publish​​.

Give It A Try - Create a Blog Post of Your Own

Follow the guidelines below to create a blog post of your own.
1. Choose A Topic:
Pick a topic you are interested in or a topic others might be interested in

2. Title:
Write a headline for the top of your blog post.
Tip: How can you make the headline interesting or attention-grabbing?
2.Plan:  Outline the information you want to include:​
Include interesting points and important information or reflections.
​
3. Write: Review your planning notes above and use them to write your blog post.
Tips: What questions, quotes, or interesting facts can you add to your blog post?

4. Call-to-Action: 
At the end of your blog post, write your call-to-action.
What do you want your readers to DO?

Include clear direction and any info needed for next steps.
Tip: For example, invite readers to do their own research,
answer a question, leave a comment, or share the post. 


5. Edit and revise: 
Reread your blog post, check your facts, proofread for proper spelling and punctuation.

6. Add an image:
Think about what image you could add to make this post more interesting.
Tip: Add a logo, photo, or drawing. Include the name and link of the source
(and confirm you have permission to use it)

7. Submit for review and possible publication.
