What is a Blog?
"A blog is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries. Posts are typically displayed in reverse chronological order, so that the most recent post appears first, at the top of the web page". Wikipedia

Features of a Blog:
  • Short (300 words or more)
  • One  topic or idea
​
Parts of a Blog:
  • An attention-grabbing headline
    Tip: The title should read like a newsflash or a news headline, daring the reader to click the link.

  • A captivating lead paragraph
  • Internet readers have short attention spans, so the first paragraph needs to command their attention.
  • Tip: Start with a quote, a question, or a bold, statement.
  • Interesting Info
  • Include interesting supporting points.  Be sure to fact-check.
  • Tip: Think about what you want to say and make a list of bullet points. Then, write your blog using these bullet points as main sections.
  • Close with a call-to-action or pathway to next steps
  • What do you want your audience to do? reflect on a particular idea? learn more? take action? Respond?
  • Whatever it is, make it clear and actionable. Include links or contact info need to follow the call to action.
  • Tip: Invite readers to answer a question, leave a comment, or share the post. 

Steps to Write a Blog Post:
  1. Choose a topic
  2. Write a headline
  3. Write the lead paragraph
  4. List a few main points in the body
  5. Write your call-to-action
  6. Check your facts
  7. Edit and revise
  8. Proofread for proper spelling and punctuation
  9. Add an image
  10. ​Submit for Review and/or Publish
