La Escuela del Agua (Bolivia)
Conservation of Local Seeds, Culture, and Spirituality in Cochabamba
Conservación de semillas, cultura y espiritualidad locales en Cochabamba

​Supporting children and their teachers
in 10 elementary schools
in the indigenous community of Cliza, Cochabamba, Bolivia,
to incorporate into
​the learning curriculum,
the practice and ideals
of local seeds,
traditional culture and spirituality
that underlies 
​traditional food and farming.
​
​Apoyando a los niños y sus maestros
en 10 escuelas primarias
en la comunidad indígena de Cliza, Cochabamba, Bolivia,
para incorporar en el plan
de estudios de aprendizaje,
la práctica y los ideales
de las semillas locales,
​la cultura tradicional y la espiritualidad
que subyace a la alimentación y la agricultura tradicionales.

This pilot project is intended
to become ​a model
for other community school systems
by which teachers and students
will create school gardens and a local seed bank to process and store
traditional seeds and create events
for seed exchange
​and community education.
The youth and their parents, will benefit from a range of opportunities
for hands-on, community-driven learning and intergenerational engagement
including workshops and a community symposium,
​in addition to reaping and sharing the harvests of the school gardens and the seed bank.
 Este proyecto piloto está destinado
​a convertirse en un modelo para otros sistemas escolares comunitarios.
mediante el cual profesores y estudiantes crearán huertos escolares y un banco de semillas local para procesar y almacenar semillas tradicionales y crear eventos
para el intercambio de semillas y la educación comunitaria.

Anticipated Results - Resultados previstos :
1)  Learning gardens about heritage seeds and crops
are established in 10 community schools.

2)  A community seed bank to process
​and store heritage indigenous crop seeds
is built and functioning.

3)  The collection and exchange
of heritage crop seeds in the community
​has significantly increased.
​
4)Workshops and a community symposium that were offered to youth and adults have increased their knowledge about seeds and soil and their relationship to culture, tradition, and spirituality.​
​1) Se establecen huertos de aprendizaje sobre semillas y cultivos patrimoniales en 10 escuelas comunitarias.

2) Se construye y funciona un banco comunitario de semillas para procesar y almacenar semillas de cultivos indígenas heredados.

3) La recolección e intercambio de semillas de cultivos patrimoniales en la comunidad ha aumentado significativamente.
​
4) Los talleres y un simposio comunitario que se ofrecieron a jóvenes y adultos han aumentado sus conocimientos sobre semillas y suelo y su relación con la cultura, la tradición y la espiritualidad.
